LOURDES GABRIELA INTERIORS

Cuban-born designer Lourdes Gabriela draws much inspiration from her childhood in Panama.  She gutted this circa-1973 condo apartment, turning it into a bright, airy space with clean, modern furnishings. Layering and texturing to give warmth, she uses white crystallized porcelain tiles, then paints ceilings, walls and trim throughout in Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White. The master bedroom has a sophisticated palette of whites and shades of gray, punctuated by a bright orange feathered headdress over the headboard. The Greek key-designed rug and mosaic wall coverings offer additional textures and complement vintage Murano lamps and nesting side tables.

HA STYLE FOR LIVING

Mexican-born designer Hector Arellano brings his passion for architectural beauty to more than 20 years of international interior design. In this apartment, he begins with a palette of neutral colors, accenting his client’s love of morado obispo — the color purple — with velvety fabric on the elegant chaise lounge that dominates the living room. The rich purple color is echoed on a nearby wall, coexisting perfectly with a striking 60”x60” unframed oil painting. In the dining room, with its ceiling-to-floor glass walls, the table for 10 takes its form from nature with its top crafted from one solid piece of natural wood.
