Intricate Swiss watchmaker Jaquet Droz has a long history with China (241 years, in fact). Chinese elements are evident in the finely crafted timepieces, but none so pronounced as the main feature in the newest models: hand-painted and sculpted depictions of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King.
To celebrate the upcoming Year of the Monkey in the Chinese calendar, Jaquet Droz released four versions of the classic Petite Heure Minute timepiece adorned with Monkey King imagery. The Petite Heure Minute Monkey boasts a hand-painted scene on an Ivory Grand Feu face and an 18 kt red-gold case. There are two size options, with the smaller also ringed with 232 diamonds. The Petite Huere Minute Relief Monkey showcases a hand-carved 18 kt gold monkey applique. The two versions offer different choices in style, with one featuring an 18 kt white gold case set with 272 diamonds and the other an eye-catching 18 kt red-gold case and dial.
