Publisher’s Pick: Brunch at Macchialina

With stellar reviews and accolades, it’s no secret that the Macchialina Taverna Rustica delivers one of the most delicious experiences in town. Featuring an inspired menu of perfectly balanced seasonal and simple ingredients, it quickly became a favorite spot to savor authentic Italian cuisine with a rustic twist. Until recently, one could only enjoy Macchialina for dinner, but owner/chef Michael Pirolo has truly outdone himself by launching a (highly-anticipated) Sunday brunch menu.

Diners have a plethora of palate-pleasing options to choose from on either the prix fixe Chef’s Breakfast or the a la carte brunch menu. The menus are paired with a specially crafted brunch cocktail menu, created by general manager/owner Jen Chaefsky, featuring brunch signatures (peach bellini, fresh mimosa), as well as inspired creations (Capri classic, Italiano, Abruzzo smas and Sicilian kiss).

The ever-changing Chef’s Breakfast ignites the senses with three enticing courses, served family style, and includes fresh juice and coffee, or brunch cocktails. The a la carte menu boasts flavor-filled “bites,” such as a scone and muffin basket with jam and mascarpone butter, along with satisfying starters like whipped ricotta with grilled figs, honey and country bread; or tomato and lobster gazpacho.

Be sure to leave room for the main dish, where you’ll find Italian takes on an array of brunch classics: steak and eggs with Italian chili relleno and beef jus; breakfast pizza; eggs macchialina; or “Italian toast,” among others.

Macchialina is located at 820 Alton Road in South Beach and serves brunch every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Dinner is served Tuesday-Thursday from 6 to 12 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
