Always Changing, Always the Same

Mercedes-Benz USA’s latest ad campaign addresses the theme “What Makes Us” in a series of TV spots with bold slogans such as “Fearless Is Fuel” and “Can’t Is a Challenge,” implying the global luxury brand will do whatever it takes to be the best. It’s a lot to live up to—especially in the sink-or-swim industry of luxury auto sales. But Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables has been doing justice to the German automaker for over 60 years, and its sister property, Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, has been doing the same for 10. Both locations have risen to become among the top three Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the nation. 

While both locations have evolved over the years, they have retained the core values that founder Bill Ussery had from the very beginning: to treat everyone like family and to offer nothing but the best, from the moment customers walk in, to when they drive away in their new cars. So whenever a team member utters the Bill Ussery Motors Group motto, “Always changing. Always the same,” you know he or she means it. 

As with any organization, success begins with having strong leadership. Both dealerships have that with Greg Barnes, president of Bill Ussery Motors Group; David Delgado, general manager of Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables; and Luis Gutierrez, general manager of Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay. “It’s the people that matter,” Barnes says. “While the Mercedes-Benz brand is iconic, it is exceptional people—our owners, our management team, our employees and, especially, our clients—that set us apart. We treat our employees, as well as our clients, like family. It’s our biggest differentiator in the luxury car market.“ 

“It’s a privilege and responsibility to lead,” Barnes adds. “My goal is to empower people so that they can also become leaders in their areas. I enjoy being part of a team where we share in the common goal of bettering our organization.” 

Inarguably, a milestone anniversary is an occasion to reflect on the past, but it’s also a time to gear up for the future. A few things to anticipate at both dealerships: shiny new introductory models, a continued devotion to charitable efforts and a steadfast commitment to the exceptional service and family values that have always been the foundation of the company’s success. After all, when it comes to Mercedes-Benz, it’s the best or nothing.
