The Table Bay Hot
Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is one of the largest cities in South Africa. It is most famous for its picture-perfect harbor and Table Mountain, both of which you can see from The Table Bay Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel that meets all the requirements for a fairytale honeymoon. We’re talking personalized in-suite service with champagne, fruit, chocolates and flowers, high tea in The Lounge, a rooftop pool and the Camelot Spa.
This hotel knows about star-level treatment, so you’ll be in good hands. The Table Bay Hotel has hosted the Obamas, Sean Connery, Charlize Theron, Robert De Niro and Céline Dion, among others. While your cozy room may be inviting, be sure to leave time for a romp through Cape Town’s picturesque wine country or discover the shops along the waterfront.
The Modern Honolulu
Hawaii is a no brainer when it comes to honeymooning. And Honolulu is an excellent choice for an urban-yet-tropical getaway. The Modern Honolulu’s 353 stylish guest rooms offer stunning views of the city skyline, the ocean and the souped-up yachts in the harbor. And although this hip, luxe hotel is not right on the beach, it’s pretty darn close with Waikiki Beach a three-minute walk away. Or take a dip in Sunset Pool, surrounded by sand with shoreside lounges, daybeds and oversized pillows. Enjoy breakfast in a plush robe out on a private terrace, then take a surf lesson. Plan for lunch at the Morimoto Waikiki, which integrates Western and Japanese ingredients to create a fresh take on traditional dishes. If you have energy left in the evening, check out the hotel’s vibrant nightclub or the bar. (Hint: It’s located behind a rotating bookshelf.)
Provodenciales, Turks and Caicos
Just below the Bahamas island chain you’ll find Turks and Caicos, a group of 40-odd islands and cays. On the northeastern edge of Providenciales, the main island, is Grace Bay. And on that stunning, 12-mile stretch of sand sits the Regent Palms Resort, a five-star, British-estate-inspired property. Pass by gurgling fountains and hyper-manicured gardens brimming with bougainvilla on your way to your sprawling, 1,500-square-foot suite. The stylish, modern suites have every comfort you can imagine: a gourmet kitchen, a four-poster bed, marble floors, a washer and dryer, hydro-massage bathtub, a dining room with sleeper sofa and a spacious balcony with travertine terrace and an oversized lounger covered in terry cloth. Stay in R&R mode by visiting the award-winning, meticulously designed spa, which takes up more than an acre of land. Afterward, sip on chilled watermelon soup and nosh on shrimp rollups, salad, fruit skewers and coffee-flavored crème brûlée.
The Los Sueños Marriott Ocean
& Golf Resort
Herradura, Costa Rica
This beautiful resort certainly lives up to its name; it is as dreamy as the 1,100-acre tropical rainforest that surrounds it. Be sure to catch the sunrise on one of the resort’s oceanfront gardens for sweeping views of the Pacific, then saunter over to the spa where the Sun Soother facial is a popular choice. When you’re ready to venture out, it’s also the perfect launch pad for adrenaline thrills galore (read: white-water rafting, ziplining and surfing). And don’t forget happy hour at Arrecife Bar & Grill, where pura vida is likely the most popular phrase muttered. It can mean nearly anything from hello to goodbye, or cheers to a happy married life.
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
This secluded 1922 lakeside lodge is perfect for the outdoorsy couple who enjoys cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ice skating or canyon ice-walk tours. Set in the Canadian Rockies’ largest national park beside Lake Beauvert, the 903-acre lodge has 446 rooms. The historic, upscale cabins are worth the splurge; you might even consider booking a replica of the six-bedroom Outlook, which once housed Queen Elizabeth. Make time for a couples massage at the Fairmont Reflections Spa and high tea, a daily tradition where a selection of teas are available along with tiered trays of sandwiches and fancy desserts.
Without a doubt, it is the quintessential mountain getaway. They don’t call it the “jewel of the park” for nothing.
McKinley Chalet Resort
Denali National Park, Alaska
The McKinley Chalet Resort, with its 345 luxury rooms and suites, sits in the northeast corner of Denali Park. It has all the basics you’ll need, including two full-service restaurants, courtesy shuttles and a friendly staff. But the real reason couples come here is to enjoy the great outdoors, specifically Mount McKinley, the highest mountain peak in North America. Hop aboard one of the shuttles to get to the Denali Park visitor center where you can visit dozens of sled dogs, learn about the area and sign up for the Tundra Wilderness Tour, a six-hour bus trek through Denali, where you are bound to see hordes of animals including porcupine, moose, caribou, grizzles and Dall sheep.
Swim with Whale Sharks — Maldives
Whale Sharks are the biggest fish in the sea — they can be the size of a school bus and can weigh up to 47,000 pounds. Yet they feed on some of the ocean’s tiniest creatures — mostly plankton and small fish.
One of the best places to see them is Maldives, because whale sharks live there year round. Biosphere Expeditions has a diving program where you stay on a live-aboard research ship and help marine biologists study and protect the coral reefs and the resident whale shark population.
You don’t need to be a scientist, but you do need to be a qualified diver to participate. And you can’t be afraid of whale sharks.
There’s no doubt that diving in Maldives is spectacular. You’ll see lionfish, moray eels, devil rays and manta rays. Overall, it’s a super cool experience.

Gladiator Training — Rome
This one’s for the guys: If you want to impress your lady, here’s your chance to look like Russell Crowe. The Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria hotel in the heart of Rome, has a program where guests can experience what it’s like to be a gladiator. You dress in a traditional tunic, Roman sandals, belt, protective gloves and even a wooden training sword as an instructor shows you ancient combat techniques and tells you the history of gladiators. And at the end, you receive a medal that shows you are now a gladiator. Afterwards, if you have any energy left, you can check out the spa or the extensive art collection that outshines many museums.
